If you want to play Street Fighter 5 online against other players and have the best chance of winning, play at 7 a.m. on the weekends. Don’t play at 2 a.m., unless you want to lose. That’s what the data from the Capcom Fighters Network says, Capcom’s Peter 'Combofiend' Rosas said at today’s Street Fighter 5 panel at Evo.
In other words, players should probably play Street Fighter when they’re bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, not when they’ve come home from the bar a little buzzed, Rosas said.
Street Fighter V Online Free
Rosas and his Capcom cohorts revealed some of the data the company has collected from Street Fighter 5 since its February release on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. According to those figures, the average playtime per Street Fighter 5 player is more than 2.5 hours a day.
According to Rosas, the number one piece of downloadable content players have purchased with real money is Karin’s summer beach costume. The most popular piece of content players purchased with Fight Money — Street Fighter 5’s in-game currency that can be earned by playing — is Ken’s alternate costume, his red gi.
Street Fighter 5 players have earned a cumulative 143 billion Fight Money, according to Rosas, but just 64 billion of that has actually been spent in the in-game shop. That’s about 644,000 Guiles, he said.
As for actual gameplay figures, Rosas said that the most used character in Street Fighter 5 was, unsurprisingly, Ryu, followed by Ken and Nash. The game’s least used character was newcomer F.A.N.G.
Rosas also shared win ratios for the entire roster of Street Fighter 5, and most hovered around 50 percent, indicating to Capcom that the game is relatively well balanced. Bison has the highest win ratio of the Street Fighter 5 roster, with Birdie coming in a close second. Cammy and Ibuki have the lowest win ratios, with player choosing Ibuki winning only about 40 percent of their fights. Rosas chalked that up to Ibuki’s complexity.
Finally, Capcom told Street Fighter 5 enthusiasts at Evo that it’s well aware of the game’s built-in input delay and that it’s investigating the matter internally. That delay, which was discovered by the community and a source of controversy among competitive Street Fighter players, is understandably a 'hot topic,' Capcom said. However, Capcom says it won’t make any major changes to Street Fighter 5 and its input delay issue until the end of the Capcom Pro Tour 2016 season.

Capcom is giving PC gamers a chance to try out Street Fighter 5 (and all of its characters) for free for a full week starting March 28. The free trial period coming to Steam offers “a free glimpse into several new features and enhancements” for the fighting game’s online experience, known as Capcom Fighters Network, Capcom said in a release.
Street Fighter 5’s free week on Steam will be limited to the game’s online modes, but all available characters, including season two characters like Akuma and Kolin, will be unlocked. Capcom’s wording implies that the free period is part of an online test for Capcom Fighters Network’s new features, and that it will “make further adjustments to optimize the new CFN and it will make its official release to both PS4 and PC players soon after.”
Here’s the full list of changes, which include a new “rage quit” penalty system, via Capcom: Free license keys activation codes.

Street Fighter 5’s free trial period on Windows PC hits Steam March 28 at 1 p.m. PT/9 p.m. GMT and runs through April 3 at 12 p.m. PT/8 p.m. GMT.
Capcom Fighters Network, the service underpinning Street Fighter 5's online component, will see some changes as part of an effort to improve the overall experience.
The list of tweaks and changes were detailed on the Capcom Unity website, and will be available for PC players to beta test on March 28 at 1 PM PST/8 PM GMT until April 3 at 12 PM PST/8 PM GMT. The beta client will be available to Steam users and 'completely free to play for both current and new players.'
'Since this beta is to test our new online infrastructure, it will only feature Online Modes,' Capcom explained. 'The beta is entirely separate from the base PC client but players’ current CFN username, rank, standing and other details will carry over to the beta client.
'For new players, they will be able to download the PC client for free and set up a new CFN profile to play for the duration of the test. All data recorded during the beta is for testing purposes only and once the beta has concluded, all replays, Fight Money earned, progress and player data will be deleted. To encourage players to participate in the beta test, all released characters, including Kolin will be unlocked for play.'
Those that participate in the beta will also get an opportunity to trial some of the balance adjustments being made to Street Fighter 5 for its second season of content. Capcom has said once this beta period has finished, it will 'make further adjustments to optimise the new CFN and will make its full release on both PS4 and PC shortly after.'
Here's the list of changes coming to CFN, as detailed by Capcom.
- Rage Quit Penalty System: Back in December, we implemented an update to the Rage Quit System which displayed a special Player Profile Icon for the worst offenders and the most honorable players. These icons are working correctly now and matchmaking logic now takes into account your online behavior and frequent disconnectors will be matched with similar opponents.
- Ranked and Casual Match Loading Times: We understand many players were not happy with the load times when entering online matches. There will now be a shorter transition when going into a Ranked or Casual Match.
- Battle Lounge Country Flags: Country flags should now properly load in Battle Lounges, allowing players to locate competition in their region.
- Training Mode – User Settings Saved: Training Mode settings are now saved and will carry over to the next time the mode is accessed.
- Matchmaking Improvements: It should now take less time to find an opponent in online matches. We’ve also added logic which avoids frequently being matched with the same opponent repeatedly.
- Fighter Profile Stats: More detailed stats will be tracked and presented on your Fighter Profile.
- Country/League Based Rankings: Players will now be able to filter leaderboards based on Country or League.
- Friend Management System: In addition to adding a player to your Favorites, you can now add Friends and follow them on CFN. You can now also Blacklist players.
- Interactive Timeline: On the CFN home menu, a live feed of your Friends’ activities is presented on an interactive Timeline. Using the Timeline, you can immediately add a recent match to your Replay List, view a Fighter Profile, manage your Friends, and adjust Timeline display settings.
- In-Game Announcer Voice: The in-game announcer will give you stats on both you and your opponent using data pulled from the server.
'We understand that Street Fighter 5’s server performance has been a less than optimal experience for many of our players,' reads a statement posted alongside the CFN changes announcement. 'The improved CFN experience is the result of rebuilding it from the ground up to address the most pressing issues that will ultimately result in a better online experience.
'The new CFN server updates mark a new beginning for playing SF5 online and we encourage our players to participate in the PC Beta Test to see what improvements we have in store.'
The last major content release for Street Fighter 5 was the introduction of Kolin, a fighter that uses the power of ice to summon 'deadly icicles' and 'frigid blasts.' She also uses the Russian martial art of Systema, which is all about using an opponent's momentum against them. You can see more of Kolin here.
